Dr. Mercedes Smith is originally from Madison, Mississippi. She holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Animal and Dairy Sciences with a minor in Poultry Sciences from Mississippi State. She is a recent graduate from Virginia Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine located in Blacksburg, VA. Dr. Smith is currently Fear Free certified in both small animal and shelter medicine. Her special interests are small animal preventative care, soft tissue surgery, and exotic animal medicine. She is currently striving to become an Avian Fear Free practitioner and more experienced with reptile internal medicine and soft tissue surgery. Her favorite part of practicing medicine includes communicating with clients and exotic/small animal medicine and husbandry.

Mercedes currently resides in South Austin with her fiance, Eric Shuffelbottom D.V.M., and their full house of a lizard (Triton), two cats (Sabastian & Scuttle), and her beagle (Bonnie). In her free time, her favorite hobbies include cooking, baking, gardening, painting, and taking Bonnie to Zilker Park. She is looking forward to meeting your pets soon!
